The pressure of summer creeping up n us, just a few weeks to go until that beack holiday but still working full time? Trailed and errored - one simple exercies you can do on the tube, at your seat or in bed.
These days you see a lot of all round thickness and muscle, whereas in the days of Arnold Swartz they sported big wide shoulders and a narrow waist. If you are familiar with the bulking and "cutting" phases then you may know it's quite difficult to build muscle without also adding to the waist line.
Wanting to build up some muscle myself I looked into it. The first thing I realised was that too many ab exercises can actually broaden your waist. The answer to toning and downsizing was "stomach vacuums" (in no way related to liposuction!).
I have tried these now for about a fortnight and am extremely impressed. Not only with the size of my waist, but actually with overall the definition and tightness of my abs!
Standing up they are simple:
+ Take a shoulder width stance with straight posture and hands on your hips.
+ Keeping posture poker straight breath all the air out of your lungs.
+ Suck in your stomach tightly as possible, as if you're trying to make your stomach touch the small of your back.
+ Hold this stance for 20 seconds (This is an isometric exercise) then release, go two more times.
Once you are good at it, up the time to 30 and then 40 seconds rather than the reps. And...voila! A super simple ab exercise wherever you are.
